Finding Beauty in Bad Weather

After a trip to the beautiful Lake District, coming home and photographing familiar surroundings can feel a little uninspiring. Today offered nothing but pouring rain, cold winds, and grey skies from start to finish. But one thing landscape photography keeps teaching me is this, never give up too early.

So I grabbed my camera and headed out into weather that honestly didn’t look promising at all. The funny thing about bad weather is that when you finally find a scene worth photographing, it often comes with a mood and atmosphere thats hard to beat in other conditions.

I’ll admit this image is heavily edited, the original scene was far more dull and lifeless than what you see here. But the dramatic sky and the soft rain over the water gave me something to work with, and after a fair bit of post-processing, I ended up quite happy with the final result.

Even if I’m still slightly cold.
